In an interesting pairing, Johnny Depp is in negotiations to join Angelina Jolie in the film, THE TOURIST, reports VARIETY. Graham King's GK Films is producing the thriller, which will be released by Sony Pictures.

Depp would play a U.S. tourist caught up in mission to catch a criminal with an Interpol agent (Jolie). The twist is that the crook is her ex-lover.

Previously, AVATAR's Sam Worthington was set to star when Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck was directing. Both have since left the project over creative differences.

Director Alfonso Cuaron is rumored to be eying the project.

King, Tim Headington, Gary Barber, Roger Birnbaum and Jonathan Glickman are the producers. Julian Fellowes wrote the original draft with redoes by Christopher McQuarrie and Jeffrey Nachmanoff.

The project is a remake of the French thriller ANTHONY ZIMMER. Originally Spyglass had the film moving forward with director Bharat Nalluri, Tom Cruise and Charlize Theron.
