ABC has picked up miniseries IMPACT from Germany's Tandem Communications, according to multiple news outlets.

The sci fi series, according to VARIETY, is about humanity's efforts to survive after the moon is hit by a meteor and heads toward Earth. The Sci Fi Channel (owned by NBC Universal) took second-window rights, while Sony Pictures Home Ent. will distribute the DVD and Blu-ray.

The four-hour series is produced by Tandem, Jaffe/Braunstein Ent (out of Hollywood) and Canada's Muse Entertainment Enterprises and is just the latest collaboration that Tandem has with international companies.

IMPACT, directed by SMALLVILLE and SUPERNATURAL director Michael J. Rohl, will star David James Elliott, Natasha Henstridge, Steven Culp and James Cromwell. Tandem's managing director Rola Bauer is looking to expand their relationship further with U.S. distributors and broadcasters, especially considering they can create international co-productions for TV event movies and miniseries cheaper than a U.S. company can.

Sales were also signed with ProSieben in Germany, TF1 in France and NHK in Japan. Other Tandem productions include TNT's thriller THE COMPANY produced with Ridley Scott and John Calley, ROBERT LUDLUM'S THE HADES FACTOR on CBS, LOST CITY RAIDERS and RING OF THE NIBELUNGS from Uli Edel for the Sci Fi Channel.
