Walt Disney Pictures has announced that PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN director Gore Verbinski will helm THE LONE RANGER, reports ComingSoon.net. Johnny Depp is set to play Tonto. Written by Justin Haythe, the story will follow a Texas Ranger, the sole survivor of an attack by Butch Cavendish's gang, who is saved by the American Indian Tonto, following which he takes the name Lone Ranger, a masked avenger who rides a white horse named Silver. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing.
