UPA Celebrated at Academy in NYC

The Academy's Monday Nights With Oscar presents "An Animated Academy Salute To UPA."

The Academy's Monday Nights With Oscar presents "An Animated Academy Salute To UPA." The event will be hosted by Oscar-winning animator and animation historian/author John Canemaker. The evening will include eight rarely seen animated shorts from UPA, including GERALD MCBOING-BOING (1950) and MISTER MAGOO’S PUDDLE JUMPER (1956). UPA was one of the most influential Hollywood studios in animation history, one whose impact is still felt in the eclectic styles of today’s animation fare. During its heyday in the 1950s, UPA’s modernist sensibility toward contemporary graphic design and experimental techniques moved cartoon films worldwide away from the Disney studio’s “illusion of life” representational imagery.

The event will take place on Monday, December 14 at 7:00 pm. The box office opens at 5:30 pm and doors will open an hour later. The screening will take place at The Academy Theater, Lighthouse International, 111 East 59th St. (Park & Lex), New York, NY 10022.

Advanced tickets must be purchased online at www.oscars.org or at the theater box office on the night of the event (subject to availability). Tickets will be $5.00 general public, $3.00 Academy members & students w/ID.
