Universal Options Graphic Novel Tommysaurus Rex

Universal Pictures has scooped up Doug TenNapel's graphic novel TOMMYSAURUS REX for $1 million. The Image Comics title will hit stores in the summer. As part of the deal, TenNapel would adapt the novel for the studio if they ask. BRUCE ALMIGHTY director Tom Shadyac will develop the project.

The story chronicles a young loner, who is devastated when his golden retriever dies in a car accident, and goes to stay at his grandfather's dairy farm, where he befriends a tyrannosaurus rex. TenNapel, who will also exec produce the feature, has also created EARTHWORM JIM and CREATURE TECH titles. TECH is being developed by Fox-based Regency Enterprises, who paid high six figures against high seven figures in August 2002 for the story.
