UK Stage Tour Announced for ‘Dinosaur Roar!’

Dinosaur Roar! Live on Stage! to tour theatres and museums across the UK.

London -- Nurture Rights, the kids entertainment company set up by Peter Curtis and Nick Barrington last year has announced a multi-year deal with the Birmingham Stage Company to produce a stage production of the classic picture book, Dinosaur Roar!.

Birmingham Stage Company is one of the world’s premier companies producing theatre for children and their families and is well known for its acclaimed productions of Horrible Histories and the many adaptations of Roald Dahl’s works.

Birmingham Stage Company is to commence development of the stage version of the classic picture book immediately.

Dinosaur Roar! is one of the best-selling picture books of all time. Since it was first published in 1994, it has sold over five million copies worldwide and is translated in over 30 different languages.

Dinosaur Roar! Live on Stage! will be produced by Neal Foster of Birmingham Stage and written and directed by David Wood OBE, the country’s leading writer and director of plays and musicals for children.

Birmingham Stage Company and David Wood OBE will reunite for the new stage production following their success of Tom’s Midnight Garden and Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach and George’s Marvellous Medicine.

The tour will commence next year and run into 2016. It will feature giant dinosaur puppets based on Paul Stickland’s stunning designs and will feature songs specially written for the production.

Neal Foster of Birmingham Stage said “One of the joys of working in children’s theatre is you find yourself being immersed in extraordinary subjects and the chance to learn all there is about dinosaurs in partnership with the Natural History Museum is a dream come true!”

David Wood OBE said, ‘‘Children love dinosaurs.  They particularly love the dinosaurs in the Dinosaur Roar! books. I am really looking forward to bringing these creatures from page to stage and triggering the children’s imaginations even further by letting them see the dinosaurs come alive in an exciting theatre experience.’’

Peter Curtis of Nurture Rights said, “We’re all really excited about this theatre production which we believe Birmingham Stage will craft into a truly spectacular experience for children and their families.”

“In the safe and experienced hands of Neal Foster and David Wood, Dinosaur Roar! Live on Stage! will be a prehistoric treat for young children across the UK. This marks a very significant stage in the lifecycle of Dinosaur Roar! and gives young dinosaur fans the opportunity to engage with their favorite dinosaurs.”

Nurture is currently working with the palaeontology team at the Natural History Museum in London to create the authentic dinosaur property for the under 6s with interactive and engaging content for young dinosaur enthusiasts. This will include an online world for pre-school dinosaur fans, a touring dinosaur exhibition specifically for the age group as well as an IMAX experience.
