Press Release from Ubisoft
SAN FRANCISCO – September 18, 2009 – Ubisoft today announced the official launch for the video game based on Columbia Pictures' and Sony Pictures Animation's 3D CG film, CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS. The video game, available on the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, PSP (PlayStation Portable) system, Wii system from Nintendo, Nintendo DS system, Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Windows PC, is now available at retail in North America.
Players assume the role of Flint, the hero-inventor of the movie, and immerse themselves in an interactive re-creation of the movie's exciting and hilarious story. Using Flint's new and exclusive wacky gadgets to defeat massively mutated food enemies and ultimately to stop the machine that is causing food to rain from the sky, players will run, climb, dodge, melt, punch, slice and dice and puzzle-solve their way through more than 20 levels spread out over 7 different environments taken from the movie; everything from Ice Cream Falls, to Jelly Castle Land! Play single-player, or team up with a friend to play as Flint's pet monkey Steve, to drop-in/drop-out at anytime, in a hilarious co-op mode! Hurl hamburgers with the "Bigacious Pow” punching glove gadget, sling spaghetti with the "Forkamajigger!”, or launch burritos in the "Outtasighter” vehicle!
The development of CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS video game is the third such collaboration in a successful partnership, with Ubisoft having produced top-selling video games based on Sony Pictures Animation's, previous animated sensations, OPEN SEASON, and Academy Award nominee for Best Animated Feature, SURF'S UP.
Windows PC users can get an early sneak peek of the action adventure game via a just-released downloadable demo. The demo, which can be found on Ubisoft's online site here (http://cloudyvideogame.us.ubi.com/#/fun-zone), gives Cloudy fans a chance to play as Flint to save his town from a "food-tastrophe,” and get a small taste of the full retail version.
Slated for release on September 18th, Sony Pictures Animation's CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS will be the most delicious event since macaroni met cheese. Inspired by the beloved children's book, the film focuses on a town where food falls from the sky like rain.
Bill Hader, star of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE and NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: BATTLE OF THE SMITHSONIAN, will voice Flint Lockwood, a young inventor who dreams of creating something that will improve everyone's life. Anna Faris, who recently turned heads as the star of the comedy hit THE HOUSE BUNNY, takes on the role of Sam Sparks, a weathergirl covering the phenomenon who hides her intelligence behind a perky exterior. James Caan plays Tim Lockwood, Flint's technophobic father. Andy Samberg plays Brent, the town bully who has plagued Flint since childhood. Bruce Campbell plays Mayor Shelbourne, who figures out that Flint's invention can put the town, and more importantly himself, on the map and Mr. T plays the by-the-rules town cop Earl Devereaux. The film also features the vocal talent of Neil Patrick Harris.
CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS is written for the screen and directed by Christopher Miller & Phil Lord, based upon the bestselling children's book written by Judi Barrett and illustrated by Ron Barrett. The film is produced by Pam Marsden.
