SPANGLISH star Paz Vega and SIN CITY siren Jamie King will play femme fatales in Frank Miller's adaptation of WILL EISNER'S THE SPIRIT, reports VARIETY. Vega takes the role of blade expert Plaster of Paris, while King will play the mysterious Lorelei.
The Lionsgate and Odd Lot Ent. production follows the title character as he goes from rookie cop to a masked hero, who rises from the dead to fight crime.
The cast also includes Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes, Samuel L. Jackson, Gabriel Macht, Sarah Paulson, Dan Lauria, Stana Katic, Johnny Simmons and Louis Lombardi.
The production, which starts today, will be filmed entirely in New Mexico. Lionsgate has set aside Jan. 16, 2009 as a release date.
Odd Lot heads Deborah Del Prete and Gigi Pritzker and Batfilm Prods.' Michael Uslan are the producers, with Batfilm co-founder Benjamin Melniker and Steven Maier on as exec producers. Odd Lot's Linda McDonough and Batfilm/Comic Book Movies' F.J. DeSanto are co-producing.
