Twilight 3 Eclipses Wednesday Box Office Record

Summit Ent.'s THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE had a record breaking opening day.

Summit Ent.'s THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE had a record breaking opening day. The third in the series marked the largest grossing midnight opening with $30 million. For the entire day, the film made $68 million, which approximately the production budget.

The haul doesn't beat NEW MOON's single day record of $72.7 million, but does best the second placeholder THE DARK KNIGHT, which earned $67.2 million. ECLISPE did, however, earn the title of the biggest Wednesday opening, surpassing TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN, which made $62 million.

ECLISPE also marks the biggest release in U.S. history, arriving in 4,416 theaters.

David Slade directed from a screenplay by Melissa Rosenberg. The film stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Bryce Dallas Howard.
