The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation is now accepting applications for the 3rd Annual Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarship, it was announced by Terri Clark, Television Academy Foundation Exec Director. Two $10,000 scholarships, underwritten by Ernst & Young Llp., are awarded each year.

Established in Dec. 2003 in honor of Fred Rogers, the creator and long-time host of MISTER ROGERS NEIGHBORHOOD, the Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarship was created to further the values and principles of Fred Rogers work and to support and encourage undergraduate or graduate students studying children's media and education.

Scholarship applications are now available and can be downloaded from the TV Academys website, www.emmys.tv. The deadline is Feb. 15, 2007.

This program is very important to the Television Academy Foundation and we are proud that we are able to offer this opportunity to students around the country," said Nancy Steingard, Television Academy governor, children's peer group. "Fred Rogers insight and dedication to young children has inspired many people and it is a privilege to be able to take part in shaping the future of childrens media in honor of his legacy.

Two scholarships, one for research and one for content will be awarded to candidates studying early childhood education, child development/child psychology, film/television production, music, animation or some combination of at least two of these fields. In addition to the stipend, recipients will receive mentoring support from members of the Academys childrens programming peer group, who will work with the recipient during the course of the academic year.

In April 2006, the Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Nathalie Carrick (UC Irvine) and Nicholas Deysher (University of Miami). The students were presented their awards at the 33rd Annual Daytime Creative Arts Ceremony in Hollywood.
