Turner Promotes Sweby to Director of Acquisitions

Following Finn Arnesen's promotion to head of programme production for Cartoon Network Int'l, Jo Sweby has been named director of acquisitions for Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Toonami in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In addition to acquiring content for Turner's European kids channels, Sweby will work alongside the European programming managers on programming strategy. Part of her new role will involve working with the business development team on new business opportunities. Sweby also plans to work closely with her counterparts around the world as Cartoon Network looks to negotiate more multi-territory deals as part of its strategic acquisition policy. Furthermore, the department has been renamed original animation and acquisitions.

Since launching as a pan-European channel in 1993, Cartoon Network now has localized services throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa in 11 languages, where it is available in more than 33 million homes. Worldwide it is available in 18 languages in 145 countries in more than 158 million homes making it the most widely distributed kids' animation channel in the world. Channels are operated by Turner Broadcasting System Europe Limited, a Time Warner Co.
