Tron and Atlantis Special Edition DVDs Coming In January!

Here are a few of the notable special effects and animated films being released this month:

JEEPERS CREEPERS - January 8

JEEPERS CREEPERS was a surprise summer hit in 2001. The story of two teenaged siblings running from a flesh-eating monster gets the double-disc treatment from UA/MGM home video. Available on January 8, 2002, the 2-sided DVD features screen-specific audio commentary with director Victor Salva, a 59-minute documentary THE MAKING OF JEEPERS CREEPERS and deleted scenes. Suggested retail price: 2-sided DVD $26.95.

TRON (20th Anniversary Collector's Edition) -- January 15

The groundbreaking visual effects in TRON made it a surprise hit when it was released in 1981. Now Disney is releasing a special 20th Anniversary edition on DVD and VHS on January 15, 2002. The DVD special edition includes over five hours of bonus features and never before seen footage including an all new 75-minute documentary THE MAKING OF TRON, interviews and audio commentary from writer/director Steven Lisberger, visual effects supervisors Richard Taylor and Harrison Ellenshaw and producer Donald Kushner, interviews with cast members Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner and others, deleted scenes, pre-production animation tests and a production photo gallery. Also includes storyboard to film comparison, computer animation design and demo reels and designs from Syd Mead, Peter Lloyd and Jean "Mobius" Girard. Suggested retail price: 2-disc DVD $29.99; VHS $14.99.

ATLANTIS: THE LOST EMPIRE (Collectors Edition) -- January 29

Disney may have decided to withdraw ATLANTIS from Academy Award consideration, but they gave it the full DVD treatment for this 2-disc Collectors Edition in stores January 29, 2002. Special features include commentary by filmmakers, deleted scenes, how to speak Atlantean, virtual tour of CG models and a special visual commentary feature where producer Don Hahn and directors Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise take viewers behind the film during key scenes to show how the film was made. Suggested retail price: Wide screen anamorphic DVD 2-disc set $39.99; VHS $26.99.
