The 10th International Trickfilm Festival takes place in Stuttgart, Germany
from March 16 - 21, 2000. The entry deadline is December 1, 1999. The
International Competition will present the best animated productions from
the past two years. More than 500 films will be screened at the festival.
The Best of Animation includes a selection of the most interesting films in
the history of artistic, animated film. Young Animation is a competition

Mental Ray: Intel's first foot

software was the first workstation application to run on Intel's first
engineering samples of the IA-64 Itanium-based platform. mental images and
Intel have been working hand-in-hand to create a version of Mental Ray that
was ported and optimized for the Itanium processor. The new platform was
demonstrated to attendees of the Intel Developer Forum in Palm Springs by
Intel CEO Craig Barrett on an early version of Microsoft's 64-bit version

Good news about THE IRON GIANT DVD!

Previously, we reported that Warner Bros. Home Video had announced that THE
IRON GIANT DVD would be letterboxed at 1.85:1, which would have been
unfortunate because the film has a 2.35:1 aspect ratio and Brad Bird
designed THE IRON GIANT partly in homage to the very wide CinemaScope films
of the 1950s. But Warners has changed their mind and the DVD will be
letterboxed at 2.35:1. THE IRON GIANT DVD will include letterboxed (2.35:1)
and pan & scan versions of the movie, be 16X9, have AC3 and 5.1 surround

DAVEY AND GOLIATH comes to DVD

Image Entertainment is releasing Art Clokey's DAVEY AND GOLIATH on DVD and
VHS. DAVEY AND GOLIATH was a stop-motion television series that was made by
GUMBY creator Art Clokey for the Lutheran Church in America from 1962 to
1977. It was usually shown on Sunday morning. In the series, Davey, a boy,
and his dog, Goliath, would usually get into some sort of trouble, but
learn a moral lesson by the end of the story. The DAVEY AND GOLIATH DVD

THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY has completed the next stage in the development of
its international organization for Europe by naming six Disney veterans to
country management roles. The six executives will all become managing

Cambridge Animation Systems announces Animo Inkworks

British born Cambridge Animation Systems has announced a new plug-in for
Alias|Wavefront's Maya which allows users to turn their 3D work into
traditional looking 2D animations. Animo Inkworks lets Maya animators
export their 3D data into Animo where it can be composited into a 2D scene
using Animo's Scene III plug-in. This new release brings high-quality
toon-shading to Maya users, and allows them to integrate their 3D and 2D
work more tightly with a high degree of customisation.

Puffin ships Composite Wizard

ILM Visual Effects Supervisor Scott Squires' company Puffin Designs has begun
shipping a Windows version of the already available MAC software 'Composite
Wizard.' The Adobe After Effects plug-in is a smart little program which
gives artists the power to clean up After Effects composites quickly and
easily, fixing common compositing problems such as ragged edges, poor matte
extractions, and improper focal depth cues. The package features over 20
filters which can be used to clean up mattes, along with 'EZ' versions of

The 2nd Annual Worldfest-Flagstaff International Film Festival. Worldfest,
which has been held in Houston for 32 years and additionally in Charleston,
South Carolina for five years, takes place in Flagstaff, Arizona, the
festival's second appearance there. The festival's focus is on independent
works that have not yet been picked up for distribution. The wide
