Press Release from Digital Video S.p.A.

Digital Video S.p.A. today announced the release of the new version 6.1 of its flagship product Toonz in its two editions: Toonz Harlequin, the 2D animation software for traditional and paperless animation productions, and Toonz Bravo, the ideal tool for paperless productions at an affordable price.

Toonz provides state-of-the-art tools for endless creative possibilities and allows animators to follow their personal approach to computer-assisted animation fast-forwarding tedious and time-consuming steps.

For the traditional workflow based on paper drawings, it is possible to use Toonz Harlequin to scan drawings, to clean them up to set a proper registration, and to do a full ink & paint process by using palette colors.

For the paperless workflow, it is possible in Toonz Harlequin or Toonz Bravo  to draw and define character models with skeleton, and store and retrieve them in the production library for endless reuse.

In both cases  scenes can be composited by moving and animating animation levels and character models over background elements according to the xsheet; pegbars and camera can be moved to create more complex shots; special FX, chosen among a very wide set including a particles engine, can be added; then sequences of frames and clips can be rendered out in the format and resolution required by the production.

For this new version developers and usability designers worked alongside on many new features and improvements involving several areas of the software. Among them we can point out: choice and CSS-like customization of interface colors and appearance;  support for Photoshop Documents in input considering document layers as xsheet elements; raster animation level drawing and editing to create and edit bitmap sketches, roughs and graphical notes; new selection tool with numerical transformations and free distortion on the selected elements; improved audio editing to trim loaded audio clips without modifying the original files, and to play all active audio columns back when scrubbing; new palette-based FX for vector levels to apply FX such as color blendings, textures or art contour; automatic multiple rendering to create automatically for a single scene several output files based on the xsheet columns content.

This new version is available for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, running on 64-bit processors as well, and natively for Mac OS X running on both PowerPC and Intel processors, with support for cross-platform projects.
