Press Release from Toonz

Toonz announced today that they are producing two live action features based on the hit series of books from R.L. Stine, the legendary creator of Goosebumps, and so many other great kid-friendly horror franchises. Toonz launched Mostly Ghostly 1 (Who let the Ghosts Out?) as a highly rated TV Movie – seen on the Disney channel and sold around the world by Universal pictures. The movie was Written and Directed by Hannah Montana Co-Creator Rich Correll and Produced by prolific feature film producers Steve Stabler (Dumb & Dumber) Yvonne Bernard and Arthur Cohen. Now Toonz has secured the team to create two more Mostly Ghostly movies (Have you met my Ghoulfriend and One night in the Doom House) filled with the same great ghoulish and funny characters, laden with state of the art VFX. Plans are on to develop a 26 minute spin off TV series.

“Toonz is first and foremost all about strong entertainment brands. In Mostly Ghostly we were able to bring together proven mega-brand creators author R.L.Stine and Hannah Montanna Co-Creator Rich Correll and Dumb and Dumber Producer Steve Stabler” said Toonz CEO P. Jayakumar, “In a business with so many uncertainties, this is a strong team and we are thrilled to be a part of it”

“The first Movie was so much fun! Most people don’t know this, but I am one of the world’s largest collectors of horror memorabilia – I love this genre. And R.L. Stine has created such a rich world that the entertainment practically created itself…well almost” quipped writer/director Rich Correll. “We’ve had such an amazing response to the first movie – the fans (and the broadcasters) were like…’why don’t you do more movie’s, based on the other books?’ Of course we had the rights – and Rich and I thought – why not go further and that’s when we decided to pursue the series. And Rich knows that world better than anyone!” said Producer Steve Stabler.

With the next 2 movies in pre-production, Toonz is now also prepping the series, with plans for a launch for late in 2011. Although the first movie was shot in LA, the sequels and series are planned to be shot up in Montreal, in partnership with Media Biz International. Toonz has offers from several major outlets for the package and will be finalizing deals at the MIPCOM market.
