Just nine months into his tenure, Tom Ortenberg has left the Weinstein Co. as president of theatrical films, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Lionsgate veteran who brought outside blood to the Weinstein Co. will not be replaced. Harvey and Bob Weinstein will instead become more active on marketing and distribution, while executives such as senior VP of distribution Laurent Quaknine will take on more responsibilities.

In a statement announcing his departure, Ortenberg said he asked to be released from his contract for "personal reasons."

His exit comes as several sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the Weinstein Co. plans to cut around 35 positions over the next month, which would put the total staff count between 70 and 80 employees.
