Universal has shifted the release of THE THING prequel to the Halloween season, reports Variety. Matthijs Van Heijningen's film was penciled in for April 29, 2011, but will now hit screens on Oct. 14, 2011.
The new story will take place before the events of the 1982 Kurt Russell film where a group of scientists discover a space ship buried in the Antarctic ice and let loose an alien creature. Eric Heisserer and Ron Moore penned the screenplay.
The cast includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton and Jonathan Walker. Marc Abraham and Eric Newman are the producers.
