After long delays, the musical SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK is looking at starting its Broadway run in November or December, reports VARIETY. The big budgeted production should start previews in October.

Recently Marvel gave the producers another extension on their stage rights — the fifth such extension. A flying workshop was conducted in Las Vegas last week and greenscreen footage is being filmed in New York this week. Stage construction is still taking place at the Hilton Theater.

Stars Evan Rachel Wood and Alan Cummings have had to leave the production due to the delays. Jennifer Damiano (NEXT TO NORMAL) and Patrick Page (DR. SEUSS' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS) have now been hired to play Mary Jane and the Green Goblin, respectively. Reeve Carney is still on board to play Peter Parker and Spider-Man.

Michael Cohl boarded the production in November as the lead producer to help the cash-strapped production take flight. The delays have cost the musical an estimated $15 million, making its overall cost so far $50 million.

Julie Taymor is directing from the book she wrote with Glen Berger. U2's Bono and The Edge wrote the music and lyrics.
