Templeton Triumphs at Annecy 2007

The coveted short film Annecy Cristal award at the 31ST International Festival of Animated Film at Annecy went to PETER AND THE WOLF by Suzie Templeton for the U.K. and Poland, as well as the Audience Award, while the Cristal for Best Feature went to FREE JIMMY by Christopher Nielsen for Norway and the U.K. The awards were presented at the closing ceremony held on Saturday, June 16, 2007, in Annecy, France.

There were more feature films in competition this year, as well as more categories awarded. THE GIRL WHO LEAPT THROUGH TIME by Maoru Hosoda of Japan won the Special Distinction for his moving film, while MAX & CO. by Samuel Guillaume & Frederic Guilaume won the feature film Audience Award for France, Switzerland, Belgium and the U.K. FREE JIMMY was seven years in the making and skews perfectly for the Comic Con/Comedy Central/SPIKE TV/Adult Swim demographic.

Joanna Quinn, a triple winner for her film, DREAMS AND DESIRES - FAMILY TIES, last year at Annecy presented the Short Film Awards. The Special Jury award went to PEARCE SISTERS by Luis Cook for the U.K., which had an unusual graphic look in 2D done at Aardman Animations.

Templeton took five years to make PETER AND THE WOLF and had never won at Annecy before. In addition to Templeton's double win, another double winner was Kez Margrie (U.K.) for THE WRONG TRAINERS, which took the award for best TV Special and the UNICEF Award.
