This past week animated shows saw primetime animation in a New Year's mood. In a three way tie at #54, THE SIMPSONS New Year's special was the top toon, drawing a 5.5 rating/11 share. The KING OF THE HILL New Year's special came right behind at #57 with a 5.4 rating/10 share. A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS aired for the last time on CBS on Christmas Day December 25, 2000. The holiday special finished 64th with a 5.0 rating/11 share. The classic cartoon had scored an impressive 10.8 rating/16 share when it aired on Monday, December 11, 2000. Down in a three-way tie for 100th place, THE PJS' New Year's special could only drum up a 1.7 rating/3 share. These ratings and shares represent primetime TV in the U.S. on broadcast networks for the week starting Monday, December 25 through Sunday, December 31, 2000. A rating is the percentage of households that tuned into the program in the entire universe of TV homes. The universe estimate for the 2000-2001 television season is 102.2 million TV homes. Each rating point represents one percent of that universe, or 1.022 million TV homes. Translation: THE SIMPSONS, with an 8.6 rating, was viewed in just over 8.78 million (8.6 x 1.022 million) households. A share is the percentage of homes with TVs being used at that given time.
