Following theatrical exhibitors declaring they wouldn't screen TOWER HEIST, Universal has decided to scrap its plan to release the film on VOD three weeks after release, reports Variety. The plan was to make the film available for $59.99 to Comcast subscribers in Atlanta and Portland.

The trade pub states that the boycotts of Cinemark with 3,825 screens and National Amusements with 450 screens only represents 11% of the screens in the nation and probably wasn't the only factor in Universal's decision to back away. No comment came from Universal on whether the top two theater chains, Regal and AMC, had factor into the move.
