Stroker & Hoop Debuts on Adult Swim
STROKER & HOOP, a new 30-minute animated comedy series created and written by Casper Kelly and Jeff Olsen, joined Adult Swim on Sept. 4, 2005.
John Stroker is a private investigator who likes to live fast and break all the rules his tough-guy attitude and imposing mustache. His style is definitely hampered by slow business. His partner, Hoop is a self-proclaimed master of disguise, though he comes across more like a bad high school counselor. They roar in and out of adventure in C.A.R.R., their disobedient and cowardly-talking hatchback. STROKER & HOOP is their first animated series.
Kelly and Olsen were writer/producers and as creative consultants at Cartoon Network On-Air Promotions on HARVEY BIRDMAN, ATTORNEY AT LAW. Prior to joining Cartoon Network, Kelly was a production assistant for Roger Corman, king of the B-movies, and wrote scripts for Nickelodeon and Disney while writing his own comic strip, FRIED SOCIETY. Olsen joined Cartoon Network after a stint creating animated advertisements for Old Navy.
Jon Glaser, a writer and performer on LATE NIGHT WITH CONAN O’BRIEN, provides the voice of burly private detective Stroker. Speed Levitch, best known as the subject of the documentary The Cruise, does Hoop. Paul Christie, a longtime voice actor well-known as the voice of “Louie the Lizard” in a series of popular beer commercials, provides the voice of C.A.R.R.

Six episodes of STROKER & HOOP, produced at Williams St. in Atlanta, begin airing in September. Another six episodes are scheduled to being in November. David Wachtenheim and Robert Marianetti, best known for their work on TV Funhouse are directing the series. Animation is being produced at Turner Studios in Atlanta.
It’s rough 2D animation with typical guy slapstick and sarcasm which typically delights the predominantly male demographic on Adult Swim.
Adult Swim (AdultSwim.com), launched in 2001, is Turner Broadcasting System Inc.’s network dedicated to edgy animated comedy and action series, both original and acquired, airing Saturday-Thursday from 11:00 pm-6:00 am (ET, PT). Adult Swim shares channel space with Cartoon Network, home to original, classic and acquired programming for children and families, and is seen in 88.5 million U.S. homes.
