Pocoyo Heads to the UK
Press release from CAKE:
Leading kids’ and family entertainment content distributor CAKE announced it has licensed all three seasons of Zinkia’s Pocoyo to Nick Jr. in the UK, including Let’s Go Pocoyo.
Pocoyo’s third season, Let’s Go Pocoyo, is comprised of 52 x 7’ episodes and will be a UK premiere for Nick Jr. this autumn, with associated linear simulcast on other platforms plus the series will also feature in Nick Jr.’s subscription VOD services on partner platforms.
While the series continues to embody its core philosophy of learning through laughter, producer Zinkia has incorporated a fresh, multi-layered, and more stylised approach to the series’ format, emphasising an overarching music theme. The new episodes continue to utilise a blend of humor and learning, which mimics children’s development while adding more relevant and innovative elements to strengthen the show’s appeal to its media savvy 3-6 year old target audience.
“We welcome Nick Jr. U.K. to our growing family of programming partners, and look forward to working with them to expand the Pocoyo brand presence throughout the United Kingdom”, says Edward Galton, CAKE’s CCO and Managing Director. “Pocoyo has developed a strong and loyal fan base, airing in major territories around the world including Nick Jr. in the U.S., and is further supported by the brand’s presence online, through mobile apps and its complementary merchandising programs.”
“Pocoyo will complement our Nick Jr. U.K. line up perfectly,” said Tina McCann, MD Nickelodeon UK. “The show is set to beguile our audience with its emphasis on laughter and fun, plus its striking animation style.”
Pocoyo currently airs in the U.S. on Nick Jr. daily in half-hour timeslots.
CAKE was named as the international television distributor for Pocoyo for all territories outside of the U.S., Latin America, Spain, Italy, Portugal and China (for which Zinkia maintains distribution rights), following Zinkia’s acquisition in April 2011 of a 51% stake in the London-based family entertainment company.
