In the basic cable lottery for AVATAR rights, FX is the winner, reports VARIETY. While official numbers were not released, the network is probably paying upwards of $25-30 million for the mega hit. The cable channel's window will begin in mid-2012 until the end of the decade, which is much longer than the typical four years. The deal also gives FX the right to broadcast the film in 3-D, if 3-D TV technology takes off in the future. HBO holds the pay channel rights.
