First Malaysian Animation Comes to Disney Channel
Animasia Studio's 26-episode FOOTBALL KIDS, the first Malaysian animated series to crack the international broadcast network, will begin airing in 16 countries on the Disney Channel in November 2007. Content distribution company peppermint played a major role in securing the agreement for the MSC Malaysia Status Company.
"Since the time in early 2000 when content development was identified as a key component of MSC Malaysia, the creative multimedia department has initiated two phase approach. 1) To create the critical mass of Malaysian creative companies who can develop world-class exportable products. 2) To market Malaysian-made products to the global market and relying less on the traditional demand created by local content buyers and broadcasters," said Kamil Othman, Vice President of Multimedia Development Corporation.
FOOTBALL KIDS tells the story of a group of children with a passion for football and dreams of being on the winning team of their school and their district. Along the way, they discover that football also teaches them about teamwork, friendship and sportsmanship. Set in the environment of a small village, the multiracial character-driven animation targets all age levels.
