Discovery Kids Uncovers Two Original Toons For Fall
Discovery Kids will introduce animated series to its fall lineup, launching the REALTOONS block to air Saturday mornings on NBC in the U.S. and on the Discovery Kids Channel. Offering a mix of cool stories and real facts, the series TUTENSTEIN and KENNY THE SHARK are based on prototypical Discovery themes ancient history and sharks.
TUTENSTEIN stars a 10-year-old Egyptian mummy boy who awakens from the dead to find himself in the present day. Luxor, his faithful feline protector, and a modern 12-year-old girl named Cleo help Tut struggle amongst present day humans and the Egyptian god Set to regain his rightful place on the throne. Being a mummy, the boy-king smells bad, stores his organs in a jar and his arms have a tendency to fall off. Hieroglyphs, his cartouche and many facts about Egyptian culture history are real to lead accuracy to this 2D/3D animated series produced by Porchlight Entertainment with services provided by Milt Vallas' MediaVision Animation. Bruce Johnson is exec producer for PE while Jessica Hanlon is exec producer for DK.
Kenny is a six-foot, 800-pound tiger shark and pampered pet of Kat, a girl obsessed with marine predators. It isn't easy living with a toothsome chum who wants to eat everything in sight, never sleeps and constantly sheds his teeth. Kat and viewers will come to learn a lot about sharks amidst the aquatic antics while Kenny must learn to live on fish flakes instead of Kat's tender little brother. Phase Four produces KENNY THE SHARK with Wiknnie Chafee, George Engelbrecht and Peter Roos as exec producers. Marjorie Kaplan, sr vp/gm for Discover Kids, is exec in charge of production for both series. For more on Discovery Kids, check out www.kids.discovery.com.
