Teen Robot Terrorizes Globe in New Trailer for ‘Chappie’

Written and directed by Neill Blomkamp, sci-fi feature ‘Chappie’ arrives in theaters March 6.

Sony has released a new full-length trailer for Neill Blomkamp’s forthcoming sci-fi feature, Chappie.

The newest project from the director of District 9 and Elysium features Chappie, an experimental robot built and taught to think and feel by a scientist called Deon, played by Dev Patel. The film’s cast also includes Sharlto Copley, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Sigourney Weaver, Hugh Jackman, and Die Antwoord’s Ninja and Yolandi Visser.

Even though the kind, young robot seen in the last few trailers appears harmless, this new preview shows a world where people just don't know what to do with thinking, feeling artificial intelligence. Check it out in the player below:

Here’s the official synopsis:

Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings -- some good, some bad -- and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there's one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.

With visual effects provided by Image Engine, Ollin Studio and The Embassy, Chappie arrives in theaters March 6.
