Ted Rae will serve as visual effects supervisor on Mel Gibsons APOCALYPTO, the mythic action-adventure set against the turbulent end times of the once great Mayan civilization, now shooting in Mexico and slated for a summer release by Disneys Touchstone Pictures.
Rae, who served as both vfx supervisor and second unit director on Gibsons THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, told VFXWORLD: "As with THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, the visual effects challenge on this picture is to bring to life a time that has past and support the story without stopping it to show off any behind the scenes technology.
When his idyllic existence is brutally disrupted by a violent invading force, a man is taken on a perilous journey to a world ruled by fear and oppression where a harrowing end awaits him. Through a twist of fate and spurred by the power of his love for his woman and his family, he makes a desperate break to return home and to ultimately save his way of life. APOCALYPTO will reportedly utilize the Mayan dialect.
