Ascension Technology has announced the addition of the X-IST FaceTracker to their line-up of motion-capture tracking devices. The X-IST FaceTracker is a lightweight, head-coupled facial expression tracker using 36 reflective markers to collect real-time motion data on strategic locations such as lips, cheeks and eyelids. Its automatic search, labeling and marker tracking are designed to accelerate production time. The real-time data, transferred to an animation workstation, integrates with Filmbox, Maya, Typhoon, Softimage and other leading software programs. The FaceTracker integrates with Ascension’s MotionStar tracking systems and Fifth Dimension Technologies 5DT Data Gloves to capture an entire body’s movements, head to foot. Jack Scully, Ascension’s vice president of sales and marketing, remarked, “The X-IST FaceTracker is a powerful tool for putting natural human expressions onto the faces of computer generated characters. Besides being real-time, it is well-supported and robust. We’re pleased to add the world-class facial tracker to our product line of hand, head and body tracking devices.” X-IST Realtime Technologies GmbH designs and distributes solutions for real-time motion tracking and real-time animation. Fifth Dimension Technologies develops, produces and distributes virtual reality hardware, software and systems, including turnkey VR systems. Ascension Technology Corporation’s DC magnetic, inertial and optical trackers are widely used in animation, virtual reality, simulation, medical imaging and real-time visualization applications.
