The Weinstein Co. has announced that Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguezs double-feature horror flick, GRINDHOUSE, will begin filming in Austin, Texas, in the next few weeks, according to the trades.
The innovative film will have each director helming two separate hour-long films, which will be bridged like a double feature with trailers for fictitious exploitation films. Rodriguez's section, PROJECT TERROR, is a zombie tale, while Tarantino's part, DEATH PROOF, is a slasher flick. Tarantino has already announced that one of the fake trailers will be for a sexploitation movie titled COWGIRLS IN SWEDEN. Other possibilities include a blaxploitation film and a kung-fu movie. More details about the cast and stories are being kept on the down low.
"Grindhouse" (coined by VARIETY) is a phrase used to describe the seedy, 1970s, downtown movie theaters that ran double or triple-features of exploitation films with brief intermissions.
