Superman Celebrates 75 Years with New Animated Short

In honor of Superman’s 75th anniversary, ‘Man of Steel’director Zack Snyder and DC animated universe maestro Bruce Timm craft a two-minute animated short which blasts through the highlights of the character’s many incarnations, from comics to movies, video games and pop art.

In honor of Superman’s 75th anniversary, Man of Steel director Zack Snyder and DC animated universe maestro Bruce Timm have crafted a two-minute animated short, courtesy of EW, which blasts through the highlights of the character’s many incarnations, from comics to movies, video games and pop art.

Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, the short begins with an extreme close-up of the classic car-lifting cover from Action Comics #1, which Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster created in 1938, accompanied by the familiar build-up to John William’s triumphant theme from the 1978 movie. The music eventually merges with Hans Zimmer’s theme from this summer’s Man of Steel, with Zimmer scoring and orchestrating the combination himself, using an 80-piece orchestra.

The animated short will premiere on the Man of Steel Blu-ray, available November 12, as well as on the DC Nation block on Cartoon Network. Snyder and Timm brought together a vast collection of DC's greatest, including Geoff Johns, Jay Oliva and Mike Carlin, to work on this project.

Check out the short film, below, and head over to EW for more details about the project’s genesis and creation:
