Superbad Beats the Box Office Rush

Sony's SUPERBAD pulled in a nifty $33M in its box office debut for the weekend period ended Aug. 19, 2007. New Line's RUSH HOUR 3 (with vfx from ILM, Halon Ent. and Element FX, among others) was bumped to second place with $21.3M for a two-week cume of $87.6M. Universal's THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM (with vfx from The Senate, Lip Sync Post and Snow Business) followed in the third spot with $19.8M for a three-week tally of $164.6 M. Fox's THE SIMPSONS MOVIE came in fourth with $6.8M, good enough for a total of $165.2M. Warner Bros.' THE INVASION (with vfx from Scanline) debuted in fifth with $5.9M. Paramount's STARDUST was a sixth place finisher with $5.6M and $19.4M (boasting vfx from Double Negative, LipSync Post, Cinesite, The Senate, Baseblack, Machine and Rushes). New Line's HAIRSPRAY (with vfx from Intelligent Creatures) came in seventh with $4.5M for a cume of $100.8M. Settling for eighth with $3.8M and $31.9M was Buena Vista's UNDERDOG (with vfx from Framestore CFC and Cinesite, among others). Warner Bros.' HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX opted for ninth with $3.65M and a cume of $278.7M (with vfx by Double Negative, Framestore CFC, ILM, Cinesite, MPC, Rising Sun and more). And 10th place belonged to Universal's I KNOW PRONOUNCE YOU CHUCK AND LARRY with $3.6M and a cume of $110.4M. Meanwhile, Disney/Pixar's RATATOUILLE hauled in another $1.6M for a cume of $196.6M.
