Super WHY Signs with Two New Licensees

Hit Nick Jr. U.K. show SUPER WHY has plenty to shout about at present -- the program has been recording huge viewing figures since its launch, whilst licensing agent Bulldog Licensing has just signed deals with two major names.

Reading is power and SUPER WHY represents a unique approach to preschool educational television, featuring a team of superhero characters with literacy-based powers, who jump into books to look for answers to everyday challenges. The home viewer is the superhero sidekick, who is encouraged to participate in the reading adventure by playing research-based reading games.

As well as being hugely entertaining, SUPER WHY teaches important reading skills in a fun way, such as the alphabet, spelling, pronunciation, writing, phonics, and word usage. The standout, imagination-stimulating show comes from New York-based Out of the Blue Enterprises and is the brainchild of Angela C. Santomero -- one of the creators of the preschool show BLUE'S CLUES.

SUPER WHY is by far the biggest show on Nick Jr. U.K., regularly bringing in more than 180,000 viewers and peaking at over 230,000; the show is stripped across Nick Jr.'s weekday schedule at a prime 6 p.m. slot.

Bulldog has signed Cesar for hanging and boxed dress-up, and Melbry Events for mall tours. Melbry have an Easter appearance coming up at Sheffield's Meadowhall complex, where kids will get the chance to meet their heroes, whilst broadcast material will be shown on the big screen in the foodhall to the million-plus weekly visitors. Master toy licensee, RC2 have had a "super" reaction from retailers, who are keen to supply the demand from consumers.
