StarGen, metaOcean to Bring 3D Sports to Korea

StarGen and metaOcean have signed an agreement to bring 3D sports programming to Korea.

Press release from SterGen:

SterGen, a leading provider of 3D technology and metaOcean—an IP marketing right holder of the Korean Pro Football League and premiere sports broadcast service provider, signed an agreement to use SterGen LIVE! real-time 3D conversion platform to make 3D sports programming available to the Korean broadcasters & carriers.

SterGen’s innovative technology enables real-time conversion of 2D camera feeds and program footage into true stereoscopic 3D – in a quality that is similar to and often higher than native 3D shooting.  Its real-time 3D image processing gives producers a quality and yet cost-effective alternative to expensive, logistically complex native 3D production.

“3D adds an exciting dimension to sport viewing” said JI Kwon, metaOcean CEO.  “We’re excited to partner with SterGen and add 3D flavor to the Korean League football matches – as well as to other sport broadcasting in the market.”

“SterGen’s cutting edge technology enables us to offer a real time 3D version of matches– based on 2D HD input – in a way that will be optimized to different type of screens.” added Kwon. “We will be able to provide one 3D version to TV, another version to mid size screens and an optimized version, with a stronger 3D effect to the new exciting 3D glasses-free phones – and all in real time. “

“SterGen is proud to work with an innovative yet experienced partner like metaOcean.” adds Ofer Wolf, CEO of SterGen. “We looked at several potential partners in Korea and found that metaOcean has the optimal team and capabilities to take our ground breaking technology to the advanced market of Korea.”

metaOcean will deploy SterGen’s high availability system at their production facility in Seoul, followed by a launch of a ‘3D campaign’ in the Korean football market during Q2/12.
