Star Trek Voyager Speeds into Warp Drive on DVD

Despite fan quibbling about the packaging and lack of significant extras, STAR TREK VOYAGER - THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON (Paramount Home Ent., $129.99) nonetheless arrives on DVD with all 15 original episodes from '95 looking and sounding better than ever. For some, the series is better than NEXT GENERATION with its emphasis on the science, intrigue and fun of time travel, wormholes and four-dimensional creatures.

Complaints aside, there's still the rare treat of scenes from the pilot ("Caretaker") featuring the original Captain Janeway portrayed by Genevieve Bujold, who was replaced by Kate Mulgrew. You can judge for yourself if they made the right move. Plus there's " Red Alert: Visual Effects - Season One" (courtesy of work by Eden FX, Digital Muse, Digital Magic Co., Foundation Imaging, CIS Hollywood, Newkirk Special Effects, Pacific Ocean Post Digital Film Group and Santa Barbara Studios).
