Star & Director Attached to Alice Game Adaptation

BUFFY star Sarah Michelle Gellar and director Marcus Nispel (THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake) have signed on for the film adaptation of American McGees videogame ALICE for Universal Pictures, reports VARIETY. Collision Ent. originally secured the rights to the game, which then when to joint venture partner Dimension after their partnership was ended. Dimension shopped the project, which landed at Universal. Electronic Arts is the publisher of the game.

The story is a dark, twisted tale on Lewis Carrolls ALICE IN WONDERLAND. The screenplay has been adapted by Erich and Jon Hoeber, and kicks off after Alices home has been destroyed and her family killed. She returns to a dark and threatening Wonderland where she must confront her fears before returning to her normal life.

Julie Yorn of Firm Films and Scott Faye of Collision Ent. are producing with Abandon Ent.'s Karen Lauder and Firm Films' JoAnne Colonna serving as exec producers. Universal vp Damien Saccani will shepherd the film for the studio.
