SpongeBob Goes Prehistoric in Primetime Special

SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS, takes a trip back in time to show the residents Bikini Bottom in prehistoric times in Nickelodeons SPOUNGEBOB GOES PREHISTORIC primetime special airing at 8-9:00 pm on March 5, 2004.

The Ugh! episode is actually part of at two-hour event, beginning at 8:00 pm when Patchy (Tom Kenny), the piratical president of his fan club, invents a time machine to retrieve a never-before-seen episode of the series. Kicking off with a liveaction adventure woven through favorite Spongebob episodes, the two-hour block follows Patchy as he journeys through various eras of history to hunt down the treasured Spongebob tape and culminates at 9:30 pm with the lost episode.

On March 1, Nickelodeon started airing a different live-action segment every day, featuring Patchy and his parrot Potty darting forward and backward in time. The duo travels to places such as The Old West, The Future, The 60s and more, trying to reach prehistory in order to present the special. The adventure culminates on Friday, March 5, when Patchy ends up in the present day on Nickelodeons U-PICK LIVE. With help from Brent, Candace and the rest of the U-PICK team, the group hunts, gathers and ultimately presents to viewers the special prehistoric episode.

In the appropriately titled Ugh! SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidwards cave-dwelling alter egos SpongeGar, Patar and Squog live in Bikini Bottom, B.C. Their dialogue is confined to primarily grunts, gasps and gibberish, leaving out some of the delightful double-meaning dialogue adults have come to enjoy so much in this series, which captivates young and older viewers. Some of it is carried out in visual shtick as the characters cavort in wildly assembled animal skins and thumb their clubs a good deal. A Jacques Cousteau-type narrator carries out some of the story and punch lines.

Thanks to the magic of an underwater thunderstorm, the Neanderthal friends discover fire (where else can you find rain or fire underwater but in a toon) and chomp on everything they can find to barbeque. The friends battle over whom should be in control of the fire and they inadvertently end up extinguishing the flames.
