Splice Adds VFX Artist Patricio Fernandez

Minneapolis-based creative studio expands its visual effects department with the new hire of VFX artist Patricio Fernandez.

Minneapolis -- Creative studio SPLICE has expanded its visual effects department with the new hire of visual effects artist Patricio Fernandez. With an incredible international resume and credits that include such feature films as Wrath of the Titans, Terminator: Salvation, Iron Man 3, and Captain America: The First Avenger, Fernandez expands the visual effects capacity of Splice, as the company continues to grow its feature and episodic television visual effects team.

“Adding Patricio has immediately bolstered our Visual Effects department,” says Splice Producer Drew Sondeland. “He has the know-how and experience to be plugged in early, providing our clients with valuable pre-pro insight. His vast capabilities have already opened up a lot of new exciting opportunities for Splice.”

“I'm thrilled to have Patricio join the team,” notes Splice VFX Artist Ben WatnE. “He brings decades of experience, but more importantly he has an eye for the subtle details that take shots from being good to being great. He also has a wide-ranging skill set. We can plug him into pre-production. He can supervise on-set, create his own CG elements, and then do the final composite on a shot. That kind of versatility is very important for a studio like ours.”

As a Filmmaker and Visual Effects Artist, Patricio Fernandez began his career at a very early age. With film as his passion, and visual and special effects as his calling, he broke into the broadcast industry as Host and Producer in the mid-1990s, incorporating computer animation and visual effects at a time when this was still uncommon in the medium. After graduating top of his class with a Film Degree, he served as a Creative and Producer for commercial campaigns, an Assistant Editor for a feature film, and an Editor for a prestigious post-production company, all in Argentina. With his mind set on future goals, Patricio moved to the U.S. in late 2000 where he earned a Master’s Degree in Computer Animation at the Miami International University of Art and Design. Since then, Patricio founded Illusion Factory, Inc. in Florida, a post-production company that provided services to Discovery Channel. He has also been an Instructor in Animation, Cinematography and Visual Effects, as well as a Program Developer for EDMC Schools. Additionally, Patricio has worked in a variety of roles as a VFX Artist for feature films such as Wrath of the Titans, Cloud Atlas, Terminator: Salvation, This Means War, Iron Man 3, Argo and Captain America: The First Avenger, to name a few, as well as a number of commercials and Super Bowl ads for Kia, Microsoft, Direct TV, Canon, among others.

“I’m very excited to join the team at Splice,” Fernandez says. “They are a talented group doing amazing work every day. I look forward to collaborating with our clients and applying my background to help them realize their vision.”
