Spiderwick Captures Four More Actors

Mary-Louise Parker, Nick Nolte, Martin Short and Joan Plowright are in talks to step into Paramount's THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

Recently, Izabella Miko (COYOTE UGLY) and Andrew McCarthy (E-RING) signed on as the leader of the elves and the main characters father, respectively.

Based on the bestselling book series from Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi, the story follows twin brothers Jared and Simon and their sister Mallory as they discover a world of fairy tale creatures on the grounds of their new home. Freddy Highmore (CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY) will play both twins while Sarah Bolger (IN AMERICA) will play the fencing enthusiast older sister.

Parker would take the role of the kids' mother, who is exasperated by her recent divorce and the behavioral problems of Jared. Nolte would provide the voice to the main villain, ogre Mulgrath, while Short would voice the troublesome brownie Thimbletack. Plowright is in line to play the kids' aunt Lucinda who has been institutionalized after claiming she can see magical creatures.

Nickelodeon Movies, Atmosphere Ent. MM and the Gotham Group are producing. The producers include Mark Canton, Albie Hecht, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Kathleen Kennedy. Mack Waters is directing.

Production has already begun in Montreal.
