Spider-Man 2 & Care Bears Take Home 3 LIMA Awards

Spider-Man Merchandising LP (Marvel Enterprises & Sony Pictures Consumer Products) won top honors last night as SPIDER-MAN 2 was named the 2004 Overall Best License of the Year at the Annual LIMA Gala and Awards Ceremony for the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers Assoc. (LIMA). The presentation, honoring the best and most creative and innovative programs and products in the multi-billion dollar worldwide licensing industry was held on June 22, 3005, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City.

In addition to its Overall Best License Award, Spider-Man 2 The Movie Promotion was also awarded the Best Promotion of the Year. Disguise,Inc. won the award for Best Film & Television Brand Licensee of the Year for Soft Goods.

Disguise Inc. also took home the Best Character Brand Licensee of the Year for Soft Goods for their line of costumes and accessories for CARE BEARS; Modern Publishing won the Hard Goods award also for CARE BEARS. Finishing up the category, CARE BEARS by American Greetings, represented by The Joester Loria Group was the winner of the Best Character Brand License of the Year.

DORA THE EXPLORER by Nickelodeon was the recipient of the Best Film & Television Brand License of the year. Fisher-Price took the Hard Goods award for its top-selling Doras Talking House.

In the Corporate category, Jeep by DaimlerChrysler, represented by The Joester Loria Group, was awarded the honor of License of the Year. Mead received the award for Licensee of the Year for the Scholastic Brand.

United States Playing Card Co. won the Best Sports Brand Licensee of the Year for its World Poker Tour products. The Best Art Brand License of the Year went to Its Happy Bunny by J.K. Benton Design Studio, represented by CopCorp Licensing. Target won the Retailer of the Year Award for its SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS program.

In addition to the awards presentation, Al Kahn, chairman/ceo of 4Kids Ent. Inc. was inducted into the Murray Altchuler Licensing Industry Hall of Fame. Kahn was honored for his 35-year career in the licensing industry as a pioneer in identifying the hottest trends in popular culture, including POKEMON and CABBAGE PATCH KIDS.

For the 12th consecutive year, LIMA donated a portion of the Awards Gala ticket sales to a charity which supports and enriches the lives of children. For the second year in a row, the contribution went to the Childrens Brain Tumor Foundation, which works to improve the treatment, quality of life, and long-term outlook for children with brain and spinal cord tumors. In addition to a portion of ticket sales going to charity, LIMA produced a special tribute book honoring Kahn and the evenings nominees with those proceeds also being donated to the Foundation.
