Sorcerer's Apprentice Could be Jay Baruchel

Actor Jay Baruchel is in negotiations to play the title role in Disney's THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE, opposite Nicolas Cage as the sorcerer, per VARIETY.

Jerry Bruckheimer is producing the Jon Turteltaub-directed live action film. Baruchel (TROPIC THUNDER, KNOCKED UP) is part of director/producer Judd Apatow's league of comedians, and is also attached to co-star again with Seth Rogan in JAY AND SETH VS. THE APOCALYPSE, a project they have set up at Mandate Pictures.

Baruchel is also voicing Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third, in DreamWorks Animation's upcoming 3-D feature HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON, set for release in 2010.

THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE will take place in modern New York, where a wizard is searching for an apprentice. Lawrence Konner and Mark Rosenthal wrote the script, which was rewritten by Matt Lopez.

Cage is exec producing with Saturn partner Norm Golightly and Todd Garner with Chad Oman, Barry Waldman and Mike Stenson producing.
