Sony Pictures Animation Unveils ‘Smurfs’ Concept Art

Marking the launch of director Kelly Asbury’s official production blog, The Blue Print, Sony Pictures Animation unveils concept art from the as-yet untitled fully CG animated Smurfs feature.

Kicking off its newest social media initiative, Sony Pictures Animation has unveiled concept art from the studio’s as-yet untitled fully CG animated Smurfs feature.

The painting, by Sony artist Sean Eckols, was posted to The Blue Print, the newly-launched official production blog by director Kelly Asbury (Shrek 2, Gnomeo & Juliet). It teases the new look of the Smurfs Village, very close to Peyo's original creation.

Asbury writes, “Equally exciting to me is the fact that this all new fully animated Smurfs project will have a completely different look than most any other previous version of the world famous franchise and, while I can’t yet show you all of the fantastic artwork that has been produced so far, I will share a tiny sneak peek.”

The Blue Print will chronicle Asbury’s journey directing the animated comedy, as well as feature guest contributors and offer exclusive glimpses at the making of the as-yet untitled film.
