Sony Moves 'RoboCop', 'Cloudy 2' Dates

Sony/Columbia changes release dates for the forthcoming “Robocop” remake, Neil Blomkamp’s “Elysium,” and animated sequel “Cloudy 2.”

Two forthcoming sci-fi features from Sony/Columbia – the RoboCop reboot and director Neil Blomkamp’s Elysium – have each been pushed back several months from their previously-set release dates, according to a report by Screenrant.

The move has allowed the studios to bump up the date for the 3D animated sequel to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, now titled Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. (The film had originally been called Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers.)

Sony/Columbia has pulled RoboCop from next year’s summer tentpole season in favor of a release beginning on February 7, 2014, where it will open against the Need for Speed video game adaptation starring Aaron Paul.

Elysium, Blomkamp’s sophomore directorial effort featuring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley (District 9) and Alice Braga (Predators), has moved into RoboCop‘s original August 9, 2013, release date. The film will now open against the comedy We’re the Millers, rather than director Park Chan-wook’s Stoker on March 1st.

With RoboCop in Cloudy 2‘s prior date, Cloudy 2 has been moved forward to a September 27, 2013, release date, where it will play against Runner Runner and The Tomb.
