Soho Square Productions Launches

Kim Goody and Alan Coates launch London-based production company Soho Square Studios.

The partnership of Kim Goody and Alan Coates, behind Soho Square Studios, has announced the launch of its new television production company, Soho Square Productions. The pair has ambitious plans tailored towards children’s and family entertainment, and they are already working on their first pre-school CG animation targeting 4-7 year olds, which is a co-creation with the king of kids’ television, Keith Chapman (Paw Patrol, Bob the Builder, Fifi and the Flowertots).

Tim Harper (Raa Raa the Noisy Lion, Andy Pandy, Roary the Racing Car) is on board to direct the company’s first 52 x 11-minute series, which will be available for broadcasters to see at MIPCOM, along with other shows already in development.

As well as children’s animation, the production slate at Soho Square Productions will cover a cross-section of genres, skews and production styles including live action. The company also has plans to expand into documentaries and drama.

Kim Goody and Alan Coates have been working together for over 25 years and have built a strong reputation in the industry based on professional service, innovation and creativity. Their experience and attention to detail has won them many awards including Broadcast Awards, The London International Awards, Kinsale Shark Advertising Awards and The Conch Awards. They have also worked on over 100 popular film and television shows including Moshi Monsters: The Movie, Postman Pat and Little Charley Bear.

Together, they bring a wealth of broadcast and music experience to the company. Kim, in particular, began her career as a star in popular children’s television shows, Play Away, Freetime and Number 73. She has performed in television dramas such as The Saint, The Bill and The Professionals, and presented “After the News” with Fern Britton and Paul Ross.

“Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to work alongside some of the best talent in the entertainment industry,” Goody comments. “Not only can Alan and I bring our joint knowledge and experiences of writing, sound, picture, music and production to the table, but we are proud to be working with such a credible and creative team including Keith Chapman, Tim Harper, and our own expert engineers at Soho Square Studios.

There is a really positive trend today within our highly competitive industry towards collaboration, pulling our joint talents together to get our ideas made. I think it’s a great way forward and can only ultimately create better results, which is good for everyone. We look forward to meeting with broadcasters at MIPCOM, as well as announcing our exciting projects in the near future.”

“We have been involved with production throughout our respective careers,” adds Coates. “As creatives, it seemed more and more obvious that we had a lot to offer and to retain some ownership of what we have always done, which is to create good ideas. Keith Chapman and Tim Harper never ceased to thrill and impress us with their work, and we are excited about bringing together such an outstanding team of industry greats with amazing vision and expertise.

Throughout our 25 years of professional life together, Kim and I have built one of the finest Audio Post Production houses in London. In 2007, we rebranded due to our fantastic new location, and built six new Audio Post Production studios in Soho Square. We are extremely excited that another chapter and a new arm of Soho Square Studios is being born. Soho Square Productions is definitely one to look out for this MIPCOM.”
