Press Release from Skywriter Media & Entertainment Group
Toronto/Brazil (September 1, 2010) – Skywriter Media & Entertainment Group and MIXER have partnered to develop the children’s animation series, Vivi, for Canada’s leading Educational broadcaster TVO. Targeting 5-7 year olds, Vivi features 2D cut-out animation combined with live action. Kate Barris (Max & Ruby) is attached as executive story editor. Animation will be done by MIXER in Brazil while pre-production and post production will be headed by Skywriter. Skywriter Distribution will be distributing worldwide.
Vivi follows the adventurous travels of a curious artistic girl, and her Grandmother, through the use of a multi-platform approach to engage and interact with viewers on her exploration of the world and self-knowledge. Throughout her travels, Vivi captures and creates inspirational souvenirs from the diverse cultures she visits, that come together to relive her stories in an ever-growing scrapbook.
The announcement was made today by Kevin Gillis, Executive Producer & CEO of Skywriter and Tiago Mello, Executive Director of MIXER.
“We are delighted to be working with TVO and MIXER,” said Gillis. “Vivi is a great character who will endear herself in the hearts of children all over the world. The digital scrapbook of her travels will inspire children to play and interact with the world around them.”
Pat Ellingson, Creative Head of Childrens Media, Content and Programming for TVO says of Vivi, “We are very excited to be developing Vivi with Skywriter and MIXER. We believe that Vivi will entertain and engage our audience. The interactive component speaks to our online audience and reflects TVO’s concentration in creating web based entertainment for the whole family.”
“Vivi is our third project geared to children and the second one with a partnership with a Canadian company. We are very excited with this new series. Vivi will position MIXER in the market as a production company specializing, among others, in this segment and also accredit the company as an international player” says Mello. Vivi received funding from the Brazilian Program, AnimaTV, to stimulate the development of animation in Brazil. Mixer is the leading pioneer in the development of animation in Brazil in cooperation with international co-productions as well as the Brazilian market.
A key driver of Vivi is the new media element. Skywriter will be designing an interactive online component that allows kids and their families to create their own scrapbooks of their journeys – real or imagined – to share with each other. So, pack your bags, and don’t forget your camera – another adventure is about to begin!
