Sky Captain Now Bound for Sept. 17

Caught in the tight web of SPIDER-MAN 2, which has been pushed up to June 30, 2004, Paramount Pictures has decided to postpone the release of SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW from June 25 to Sept. 17, which gives the experimental CG adventure more time to find its audience, according to the studio.

And a little more breathing room for the various vfx houses rushing to complete post-production on the 1,000 or so shots remaining to be finished out of a total of more than 2,000 for a movie entirely shot on bluescreen. Starring Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie, SKY CAPTAIN boasts a singular futuristic-retro vision of Saturday morning serials by first-time director Kerry Conran.

Assisting in the vfx work are: Computer CAFE FX, Gray Matter FX, Luma Pictures, Engine Room, the Orphanage, Pacific Title & Art Studios, Pixel Liberation Front, R!OT, Ring of Fire and, most recently, Industrial Light & Magic, VFXWorld has learned.

Paramount will now be able to take advantage of Comic-Con in July to promote SKY CAPTAIN, along though its previously scheduled participation at VES 2004 on June 18 in San Rafael may be up in the air.
