Silver Surfer Crests Weekend Box Office

Fox's FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER (with vfx by Weta Digital, SOHO VFX, Hydraulx, Giant Killer Robots, Hammerhead, The Orphanage, Frantic Films, Lola Visual Effects, Digiscope and Image Engine) crested the box office to the No. 1 position taking in $58.4M for the weekend ended June 17, 2007. Warner Bros.' OCEAN'S 13 dropped to the second position with $19.7M and a cume of $70.4M. Universal's romantic comedy, KNOCKED UP, maintained the third spot with $14M and $90M while PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD'S END (with more cutting edge vfx from ILM) dropped to fourth with $12.4M and a total take of $273.4M for Buena Vista. In its second week, with $9.2M and a $34.6M cume was SURF'S UP from Sony Pictures Animation and Columbia Pictures in fifth place. SHREK THE THIRD followed in sixth with $9M and a cume of $297.2M for Paramount/DreamWorks. Seventh place belonged to another newcomer, NANCY DREW, with $6.8M for Warner Bros. In its second week, HOSTEL PART II, brought in another $3M and a $14.2M cume for Lionsgate. MGM's MR. BROOKS (with vfx from SWAY) was a ninth place finisher with $2.9M and $23.5M.
