Shrek Stays Hot In #2 Box Office Spot

Buena Vistas PEARL HARBOR held off SHREK to remain box office champ this week, grossing $29.5 million, for a two week cumulative total of $118.8 million. DreamWorks' CG-animated film SHREK stayed hot at the box office, bringing in another $28.1 million in its third week of release, for a cumulative total of $148.4 million. Universal's THE MUMMY RETURNS slipped to #6 for its fifth weekend with $7.7 million, boasting a cumulative total of $181.1 million. Sony's A KNIGHT'S TALE jousted the seventh slot at $3.4 million, with a $49.4 cumulative total. Miramax's BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY moved to the eighth slot with $2.0 million and a cumulative total of $65.3 million. Warner Bros. ANGEL EYES fell to #9 with $1.9 million and a cumulative total of $21.7 million. Box office figures were obtained at Yahoo.com. Directed by Andrew Adamson and Victoria Jenson, SHREK stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow. It was produced at PDI/DreamWorks, the companys Palo Alto CGI and effects unit. SHREK was one of 22 films selected for official competition at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. It was the first time in 48 years that an animated film has been selected to compete at Cannes.
