Illumination Ent. is developing a feature film version of WOODY WOODPECKER, reports Heat Vision. The studio is in negotiations with BLADE OF GLORY scribes John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky to develop the story.

Walter Lantz created the loony woodpecker, which debuted in the 1940 short KNOCK KNOCK. Initially he was voiced by Mel Blanc, but later Ben Hardaway took over the character through the rest of the 1940s and once the 1950s arrived Grace Stafford was the voice.

I hope the movie will stay true to the classic cartoons of the character's.
