Sharks Advertising Festival Awards Prizes

TBWA network agencies created the biggest impact at the 42nd Sharks Advertising Festival in Galway. Dublin Agency Cawley Nea TBWA won the Irish Grand Prix and a host of other Awards for its Today FM campaign. Its sister agency TBWA London won the Cinema Grand Prix, 3 Craft and two Gold Sharks for the Playstation 2 Mountain ad. The Festival Grand Prix was won by BBHs Getting Dressed commercial for Lynx.

In animation news, Brown Bag Films won two Shark Awards, along with Young Euro RSCG for their Jacob's Fig Roll campaign (2x30 sec) in the categories of International Television - Confectionery and Irish Television - Campaign/Series. The commercials were in 2D animation and relied on candid responses from children who were asked "How do Jacobs get the fig in the Fig Rolls"?

The Awards Show, the Festival Conference and Creative Forum were held Sept. 13-14, 2004, in the Radisson Hotel Galway to a capacity delegation of Irish and International advertising and media people.

The Conference, chaired by David McWilliams, addressed topical advertising issues such as children, new legislation and budgetary pressures. Keynote speakers included John Fanning of McConnells, Amanda Walsh of Red Cell Europe and Michael OKeeffe of the BCI who premiered the new Childrens Advertising Code for Ireland.

Other successful entrants at the awards included DDB Chicago for Budweiser, Weiden & Kennedy London for BMW, Lowe Worldwide for Stella Artois and the Belgian agency Duval Guillaume. The full list of winners is available on the festival Website www.sharkawards.com

This years jury was led by creative legend Gerry Moira. The Irish judge was Damien ODonnell while Lode Schaeffer, John McCabe and Steve Spence represented Holland, the USA and the U.K. respectively.

The Shark Awards is an annual advertising festival that celebrates the best work in broadcast advertising from Ireland and around the world. Once synonymous with Kinsale, where it was held for many years, The Shark Awards now calls Galway home. Established in 1962 at the birth of commercial television in Ireland, the Shark Awards are now thought of as one of the top creative advertising festivals in the world.
